“What is in the face that we cannot see, what secrets lie beneath, is it in grace, our angel waiting?” (An Internet poet known only as “Hope”) In the DREAMS series I am trying to answer a question about the visual relation of the face and its surroundings, and what effect it has, if any, on the change in our perception of the person behind it when the face (or a mask portrait in this case) is placed into an unexpected environment. Similar to STILL LIFES ON SAND, FALL COLORS and other series with a focus on impermanence, these images reflect my strong affinity with the Japanese philosophy and aesthetics of wabi-sabi, which is centered on the acceptance of impermanence of the word around us, and our own.
